Chennai Super Kings’ Ruturaj Gaikwad will sit out the rest of IPL 2025 after suffering a hairline elbow fracture during a match against Rajasthan Royals earlier this season. With Gaikwad sidelined, the team’s “young wicketkeeper” leads.
“It’s been a tough year, but our young keeper’s taking the reins now—hoping for a turnaround. I’ll be in the dugout, cheering the team on,” Gaikwad shared. CSK, after an opening win, has dropped four straight games. “I’d have loved to pull us out of this slump, but you can’t change some things. I’m here to support the boys and wish them a solid end to the season.”
“I’m devastated to miss the IPL’s remainder due to this elbow injury. Thanks to everyone for the incredible support—it means everything,” Gaikwad expressed about his setback.
“He took a hit in Guwahati and played through pain. An X-ray didn’t show much, but an MRI confirmed a radial neck fracture in his elbow. We’re gutted for him and value his efforts to keep going, but he’s out for the tournament. Thankfully, we’ve got an uncapped gem, MS Dhoni, stepping in as captain for the rest of IPL,” Head Coach Stephen Fleming revealed before CSK’s upcoming game against Kolkata Knight Riders on Thursday.
“Dhoni didn’t blink at the chance to lead and steer us back on track. That was never in question,” Fleming noted.
