Tamil Nadu kids groove to trending Thai song, video hits 100 million views

A bunch of students from a government school in Tamil Nadu stole the internet’s heart with their pitch-perfect take on a viral Thai song that echoes Tamil vibes. Their performance video, racking up over 100 million views, has taken social media by storm.

Shared by a teacher from Melur Panchayat Union Kindergarten and Middle School in Therkamoor, the clip captures kids belting out and grooving to the catchy Thai tune Anan Ta Pad Chaye. In the charming video, a group of girls and one boy sway and sing, turning the Thai lyrics into what sounds like “Annana Pathiya Aapata Kethiya” in Tamil—thanks to the surprising linguistic overlap.

All decked out in their school uniforms, the kids nail this song with sweet, confident pronunciation, melting the hearts of viewers far and wide. But it isn’t just the song that charms; it’s their pure enthusiasm and joy. Lead by little Shivadarshini, who has inadvertently emerged as the viral breakout star of this classroom moment.

Another clip featuring Shivadarshini also struck gold online. In it, students recite self-affirmations, and her standout line—“Shivadarshini believes in herself”—charmed the web even more.

Social media can’t get enough. “They’re like little minions!” one user gushed. “This is beyond cute,” another chimed in, and honestly, we’re right there with them. “Take me back to school days, please!” pleaded a nostalgic commenter.

The song Anan Ta Pad Chaye has been buzzing in India for its Tamil-like sound. Still, it’s initially a Thai track, possibly by comedian-singer Noi Chernyim, rooted in traditional incantations. It gained fame when Indonesian artist Niken Salindry brought it to her performances around 2019. For these Tamil Nadu kids, though, their joyful spin has made it a global sensation.
